There is an African proverb that says, “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far go together.”

In the Sept/Oct #ChiefToChief series, #ESSENCEVentures President and CEO Caroline Wanga (wangawoman) traveled to Ghana and met with Ghanaian Roberta.Annan to understand the environmental injustice being directed at the continent of Africa through fast fashion waste.

“There are 15 million pieces of clothing imported to Ghana daily. 40% of what’s imported ends up in landfills because of defects,” says Annan.

Roberta Annan is a global powerhouse. She is a global impact investor, founder of a fund supporting Africa’s creative sector that is targeting €100 million and a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Environment Programme. She is also the founder of the African Fashion Foundation, a non-profit that invests in the early stages of creative entities in Africa. Her mission includes promoting and scaling African businesses, especially in fashion, by highlighting injustices to the African community.
