Dr. Marc Zimmer is a computational chemist and a chemistry professor on the 132nd Semester at Sea voyage. He teaches "Chemistry in Context" for non-science majors.

Dr. Zimmer's home institution is Connecticut College, where he’s been teaching since 1990. He grew up in South Africa during Apartheid, which led him to pursue an education outside of his home country in order to avoid mandatory military service in South Africa that would advance the Apartheid regime. He’s joined onboard by his wife, Dianne, and this is his 4th - yes 4th! - Semester at Sea voyage. Dr. Zimmer regularly returns to South Africa to conduct research and lead programs with his chemistry students. 

His class on the 132nd Semester at Sea voyage centers on, "just the chemistry that is required to understand something." While visiting Cape Town, South Africa and Valletta, Malta, Professor Zimmer's students explore science-based topics relevant to each port, as well as global issues directly impacting them and the rest of humanity.
