Congratulations to this year’s Student of the Year !!

From Castaic California, Torrin was a part of the first graduating class of Castaic High School where he found his love for filmmaking and storytelling. Now, he attends Cal State Northridge where he will continue to pursue his passion as a Cinema and Television Arts major.

As a new school, Torrin was excited for the opportunity to build the school’s tv production program, Good Morning Castaic, from the ground up, setting a foundation for future students to come. As GMC’s first producer, he has led his team from filming news packages on GoPros in empty classrooms to a full studio of professional-grade equipment. He found enjoyment in gaining further knowledge on filming, editing, and the use of equipment, then sharing this knowledge with his team.

Torrin has sought out challenges and created opportunities for new experiences that helped him to take risks and try out unconventional strategies. He competed in his first STN competition back in 2020 but did not place in his respective category. This left him determined to improve his skill set and knowledge base. With persistence, Torrin ended up accumulating 11 STN awards as well as 5 other statewide and national recognitions.

Torrin Reichers has enjoyed sharing his passion for the creative and technical side of filmmaking with others around him. He finds excitement to see their skills improve as a result. As STN’s 2023 -2024 Student of the Year, he wants to reach a larger audience and make a bigger impact on the future of filmmaking. That future is in the younger students that are finding their voices. It doesn’t matter where you come from, or where you may have started. As long as you are persistent and believe in yourself, anything is possible.
