“As an NP an IBCLC, this cup blew my mind. The baby in this video has never drank from a straw and quickly figured out how to suck because of its easy squeeze and sip function. You’ll see in the video, when you squeeze the cup, the water rises to the top of the straw. When you place the straw to the baby’s mouth, they feel and taste the water and instinctively put their lips around the straw and suck. This kiddo figured it out the first time, but if needed you can keep practicing the squeeze and sip and watch as your baby catches on to how to use a straw! Then, your baby will go on to easily hold this cup themselves, as well as learn to squeeze and sip all on their own. ⁠

While I’m helping moms breastfeed, I also meet babies who got so good at breastfeeding that they won’t take a bottle. For some families, this becomes a huge stressor as the mom might be going back to work or finding herself at times where she is going to be separated from her baby and needing her partner or family to feed the baby a bottle.⁠

Around 4-6 months, if a baby is still refusing a bottle, even after bottle exposure and training, I often refer parents to a speech and language pathologist. In this situation, it’s common that we move on from trying bottles and start using a cup to feed a baby. Which is why I’m so pumped for this new squeeze and sip straw cup. This is a great option for those babies who are getting older and still not taking a bottle. Parents can put breastmilk or formula in this cup if their baby won’t take it from a bottle, and/or you can also use it at 6 months and up when baby’s start drinking water.⁠
