Portage & Main Barrier Mural > It’s great seeing the progress of this mural. About 3/4s of the mural facing the traffic is complete. everlinecoatingswinnipeg y’all are champs! Thank you for all your hard work. I appreciate all the love and support I’ve been receiving regardless if people agree with the function of the barriers. Either way I’m greatful for the opportunity to share my work with our city.

The Main Street and Portage Avenue Barrier Mural’s goal was to add energy to the intersection, help to beautify our downtown area, be inclusive, and be considerate to commuters and our community. The word “pulse” was part of the inspiration for the design and refers to what we as a community all have in common. Whether rich or poor or different ethnicities, we all have the same colour blood and we all have a pulse. The centre points of the design graphically radiates out from light to darker colours, creating a visual harmony. Inspiration for the mural was also found through the merging or the coming and going of people in the intersection, which can almost be compared to the action of weaving. While finding inspiration in Cree, Métis, Filipino, Ukrainian, African and Norwegian woven patterns and textiles, similarities in each pattern were noticed. A common thread so to speak. With that in mind, a unique pattern that incorporates simple geometric shapes and angles that reflect commonalities within those patterns was created. The goal was to create a design we all can be proud of and call our own Manitoba pattern. One culture made up of unique people.
