While the diagnosis worried me and I started trying to be healthy again, I didn’t do everything the doctor told me. I cut corners. A. LOT. On Christmas Day after witnessing what had happened to my mom and the long road she has ahead of her, I made a promise to myself that I would not end up like that. Diabetes is already in my DNA and then finding out in 2021 I was insulin resistant, it was basically a guarantee that I was one Big Mac away from full blown diabetes. Did I mention I’m the only one in my family who isn’t diabetic? I was scared shitless. On that day, that was the end of cutting corners. I very rarely cheat anymore because sugar and carbs make me feel like crap. That’s why I’m having great success. I stick to the plan. Low carb, low sugar, no soda (even diet), minimal caffeine, lots of water, minimal booze, no high intensity workouts due to hormones. Walking, Pilates, barre and weight training only! While I was doing better from spring 2022 until Christmas it wasn’t enough. 10 months of straight consistency WILL. PAY. OFF. Stay the course.
