So often people choose belonging over authenticity. Most of the time the fear of being judged dictates our behavior rather then choosing to be exactly who we are. 

If we abandon ourselves in order to belong to someone else then we don’t belong to anyone. We no longer even belong to ourselves and our relationships are based on pretending to be whoever the other person wants us to be. 

There is no intimacy possible and no opportunity for love if we alter things about ourselves in order to be accepted. Love is unconditional or else it’s not love, it’s something else. 

Be proud of who you are. You have no reason to own others judgement. Shame is poison

I experienced anti semitism since first grade- l was the only Jewish kid in my class and the kids said mean things. In middle school a boy drew a swastika on my locker and I had to live with it all year. In college two boys broke into my dorm room to put red paint on on the mirror that said “die Jew with a swastika”and hung my doll from the ceiling and wrote numbers on its arm as if it was a concentration camp victim. Someone in college asked me if I had horns because she had never met a Jew. I asked if she was serious and she really was. At my college someone set fire to the Hillel (Jewish center) on campus. Then I went to Israel and lived through 3 years of neighborhood bus bombings and suicide bombings. I spent lots of time in a safe room. No  matter what I have only grown more brave as time went on. The more I learn about Judaism and the more I celebrate Shabbat and teach our traditions to my kids - I feel so grateful to have been born a Jew. 

This song that’s playing on this reel was written by an Israeli artist Mosh Ben Ari. It’s using words in Hebrew and Arabic. It’s about all the world coexistence and living as one family. This song is very popular in Israel and I like this version because it’s sung by a group of kids at a jewish camp here in California.
