Sonaksh Singh Rawat of @topspeed explains how the Z28 came to be: "A total of 7,199 '68 Camaro Z/28s were built, but just one special 68 Camaro was built for Pete Estes, the General Manager of Chevrolet; hence it was called the "Estes Camaro." Initially, it was designed to be a track-only Camaro, but later, a decision was made to make it available to the public as well. The '68 Camaro Z/28 came with a V-8 engine (302 cubic inches), which was a powerhouse, churning out a whopping 400 horsepower, and it could do the quarter mile in 14.8 seconds."
