I’ve been waiting for my book, Truth Tales: The Air Fair-He, to finally make it to target but honestly I don’t need it there and it won’t help me be successful. To help me, it’s better if you buy the book directly from the printer (the link is in my bio to purchase) 👇🏾
.
Things I’ve learned about the book world since becoming an author:
.
1. Retailers are the WORST places to buy books
2. Retailers take a minimum of 40% proceeds (Barnes and Noble takes a minimum of 50% to be added to physical shelves)
3. It takes authors years to write books! And to profit they have to increase prices to make MAYBE $2 each book
4. Shelf space is expensive. Publishers pay for shelf space to make sure their books are seen. AND 79 % of the publishing industry is white leaving Black authors without a publisher and pushing them to self publish aka no shelf space.
5. Because the industry is difficult to enter lots of black authors use to Amazon publish but then Amazon takes most of the profit! (And around we go)
.
The benefit of social media is that indie authors can take back control and it gives them a real platform where retailers have taken it away. Remember, to try to buy your books directly if they are a self published author or through places like bookshop_org that credits small book shops
