Here’s an important lesson that I learned the hard way when I was in management consultant trying to get a promotion.

And constantly wondering why the partners weren’t promoting me each year.

What people say about you when you’re NOT in the room matters.

It’s simply NOT enough for you to just promote yourself.
 
WHO champions you, the reputation and trust THEY have with others matters.

If you’re not getting smart, trustworthy people to BACK you when you’re NOT in the room, you’re MISSING OUT and your PR is completely inefficient.

There’s no ripple effect to what you’re doing.

It’s just the power of a lonely 1.

Take Tuesday’s luncheon for example.

None of my Parlour clients were in London at an exclusive Media Luncheon I held with the UK's Top Personal Development Journalists.

BUT their books were.

And their champion was (moi!).

And some of the journalists who had ALREADY written about them were.

When you get others to back you, give speeches about you and your work it’s SO FUCKING POWERFUL.

When a prestigious journalist pipes up in a room and says “Oh I wrote about her, she’s great,” the journalists who HAVEN'T written about you (yet!), scribble down your name.

So for 2024 get yourself the RIGHT people with the RIGHT networks to back you.

Your reputation and growth matters.
