Simone Biles was voted Associated Press Female Athlete of the Year for a third time, becoming the fourth woman in the last 50 years to earn the honor three or more times. 👏
•
Caitlin Clark, Iowa’s basketball star who broke out during the NCAA tournament last season, followed Biles in votes this year, with Ballon d’Or winner Aitana Bonmati, who shined en route to Spain’s World Cup victory in August, coming in third. 👀
•
Biles was previously awarded AP Female Athlete of the Year in 2016, after she won four gold medals in her Olympic debut, and again in 2019, when she became the first gymnast to win five golds at a single worlds since 1958. 🏅
•
Biles returned to competition this summer and fall for the first time since the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. She claimed victory in all of her all-around competitions, securing four gold medals and one silver at the world championships held in October. 🔥
•
FUN FACT: The three other women to win AP Female Athlete of the Year three or more times in the last 50 years include tennis players Serena Williams (five times) and Chris Evert (four) and golfer Annika Sörenstam (three). 🤯 #thegist
