**RTCF Christmas Day @ UNC Cancer Center**

This is my WHY.

Today is Christmas.
It’s also the anniversary of my cancer diagnosis.
And the 3rd Birthday of RTCF.

Today, I spent the last 4 hrs. at the UNC Bone Marrow Transplant Unit meeting patients and providing some gifts.

In the last 3-years, I’ve been fortunate to experience some incredible things…and today
is undoubtedly one of the most meaningful days all year.

I was able to visit 21-patients at the UNC Bone Marrow Transplant Unit.

I went room by room, delivering gifts in person.

We shared endless stories, we cried, we prayed, we laughed, we complained & bitched, we gave and received hugs, some filled with hope, some full of suffering and sadness, but most filled with gratitude. We shared words of inspiration, encouragement and support.

Meeting these incredibly brave, courageous, inspiring people, wwho are literally fighting for their lives…many who are very sick…many alone….on Christmas, provided the gift, to remind me how I should be living, serving others, & the true meaning of the holidays.

Their willingness to be vulnerable, & the eagerness to share their story, was a reminder we are all just the same, some of us are just fighting tougher battles in this moment.

The endless amount of gratitude and hope in that building, within the depth of their souls, can teach us a lot about the human experience.

I’m endlessly grateful for this opportunity, and thankful that I was able to spend my Christmas Day, inspiring, encouraging & attempting to lessen the suffering of those around me.

A huge thank you to our donors, the youth hockey community & families that purchased items off the wish list, and my 11 & 12 year old students and hockey players that wrote personal letters/cards, and helped pack these sacs that were delivered today. Community is everything, and I’m proud to be a part of it.
