Following a first-of-his-tenure losing season in 2022, football coach Jim McElwain and the Chippewas came on strong with sights set on historic games at iconic stadiums and a turnaround in ’23. Despite the exciting wins -- including a 34-30 upset at South Alabama and a  17-10 homecoming victory against Akron -- the team finished the season 3-5 in MAC play and 5-7 overall.⁠
