You’ve heard the siren song of generative AI. We get it. But there are risks. So we asked some project leaders for their top tips on how to use the emerging tech—safely. 

“Start small and experiment,” says Higor Prado, PMP, software engineer at Softfocus in Mateus Leme, Brazil. “Don’t be afraid to test the waters and learn as you go along.” 

Project professionals at all levels will find a multitude of uses, from ideating a stakeholder management plan to developing user stories, says Kristian Bainey, PMP, CEO of K-Pic Systems Inc., Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

But both project leaders agree this isn’t the time to just hand off responsibilities to AI completely. “No matter how advanced these tools become, they are just that—tools,” says Prado. “They are here to assist us.”

In other words, you’re still going to need real people. “The human has empathy,” Bainey says. “The human has emotional intelligence. The human is going to make the decision at the end of the day.”
