On Wednesday, as the 2024 General Assembly session convened, Del. Don L. Scott Jr. was sworn in as Speaker of the Virginia House of Delegates.

Speaker Scott (D-Portsmouth) has made history as the first Black person to become Speaker of the Virginia House in its 405-year history.
