The duality of America…
We have ELECTRIC CARS, we can FACETIME, you can send anyone money in a split second…
And we still have N*GG*R as part of the American lexicon.

None of those advances I mentioned were even a glimmer of a possibility when this happened to her, yet it’s not out of the realm of possibility that someone else could have that same experience today.

You might need some tissue for this. 🤧😢

I recently sat down with my mom (rev._mel) and asked her about the racism she faced as a child, growing up in the 60s and 70s in Chicago. 📝

She talked about college (you’ll see that later), but she also discussed a time where she tried to go to mcdonalds as a child (8-years-old) with her younger sister, but couldn’t because a racist White mob confronted them (remember, they were KIDS being yelled at by ADULTS) and yelled at them, “N*****s go home!” 🤬

She briefly told me this story before, but never in this much detail, to the point where she broke down crying. It was tough! You have to watch this to see what she resolved to do as an 8-year-old in that situation. I’ll just say… it involves a chain. 😯

It’s stories like this that help me better understand why I am the person that I am regarding similar situations. 🗣️✊🏾

Can you relate to this? Do you have a similar story? Let me know in the comments. These are the stories that don’t make the history books, but these are the stories that our kids need to know as well. 💯

You can follow my mom here (rev._mel), and her church here (grace_ucc) If ya’ in a giving mood, consider a donation. They aren’t just a church - they are a community center that feeds the community regularly through a farm in Sauk Village, IL. 🥗

As a side note, where are those Jim Crow reparations? 🤔 AND… can you believe that there was once a time when McDonald’s wasn’t on every corner, especially in the Black community? Wow. 😮
