Are you excited for the long weekend? Let's kickstart it with some motivation!

I've a video that showcases the progress of a horse from its first ride to the last one before it was picked up. In training, I emphasise that training is not a one-time thing but rather a continuous process of revisiting, polishing, and making daily small changes. This is especially true for older horses.

In the video, you can clearly see the mental as well as the physical work that goes into training horses. All three gaiters are visibly different, with some showing clarity while others showing choppiness. The canter is incredibly challenging for this horse, as it requires a soft and flexible back that allows them to lift and rise in the front, the activation of the thoracic sling, wither lift, and a soft poll. Being able to shift the weight from
Shoulder to shoulder, allowing flexibility in the bend and ability to rotate the ribcage.

But training is only one part of the equation. This particular horse had undergone a lot of bodywork, including visits to an excellent Equine Dentist. Her teeth were a mess – crooked, with hooks and ulcers in her cheeks. Her alignment was out of whack, which affected her from head to tail.

This was not due to a lack of care the horse had regular dental treatment!

Despite these challenges, the horse's willingness to learn and improve is inspiring. She showed up for work every day, even when it was hard. Her beautiful mind was a pleasure to work with, and I paid close attention to what she could and couldn't do.

In the video, you can see the progress of the horse's movements as she gains flexibility in her joints, her back lifts, and her steps become longer. It's incredible to witness the transformation!

Of course, all these changes take time. Relearning balance, contact, and movement patterns require patience and persistence. But as a trainer reminds us, that is a daily routine – just like going to the gym. The more you put in, the better you get!

So, I hope this video inspires you to keep working forward with your own goals – no matter how challenging they may seem. Remember, progress takes time, but with dedication, anything is possible!
