And on April 8, 2024, both new and seasoned eclipse chasers will have the potential to experience 100% totality yet again.⁠

As the path of totality will spread across Central and North America, it’s expected to be a huge event in the travel industry. It has gained so much traction and interest that most tours, cruises, and events centered around it are already sold out, and many travel companies have already rerouted their focus to the 2026 eclipse. So why is it so popular? We went straight to the eclipse chasers to hear their experiences. ⁠

After Brian Page, an aerospace engineer, witnessed his first total solar eclipse in 2006, chasing totality became a singular obsession. “This was the most surreal experience of my life, and it hooked me on eclipses,” he recalls. “They’re a portal to another dimension.” To Dr. Michael Kirk, a research scientist, totality is a visceral experience. “If you’re in the path of totality… it’s emotional. People cry.” Others like Mandy Wang and Lauren Throop compare it to seeing your favorite artist around the world or visiting a beloved festival every year. According to them, totality is spiritually addictive, an awakening that is so complicated to describe that the only thing left to do is try to experience it over and over again.
