It's home to a rare type of glacier called a cirque glacier. Cirques are bowl-shaped depressions formed by the erosive action of glaciers, and they're relatively uncommon in the 
Rocky Mountains. The San Isabelle Glacier on Apache Peak is one of the few examples of a cirque glacier in the region. It's a small glacier, but it's an important part of the mountain's ecosystem and a reminder of the area's glacial past.
