hypedrive: You thought toyota was through with it's "evolved" GR Yaris from #tokyoautosalon? Nope – there's two special editions too.

Toyota announced today that there will be two special versions of the recently-refreshed GR Yaris RZ models – the High performance・Sébastien Ogier and Kalle Rovanperä editions, both of whom are WRC Drivers' Title winners.

The Sébastien Ogier is the more subdued version of the pair, arriving in Matte Stealth Gray and with a CFRP rear wing in exposed carbon fiber. On the front fender, a subtle WRC victory commemorative decal decorates the driver's win, while inside receives France flag-colored steering wheel stitching.

The Kalle Rovanperä edition however is a bit louder, coming in a three-toned paint scheme that references Kalle's helmet. A more technical rear wing – similar to the one found on the GRMN edition of the Yaris – is not only louder but is variable with different settings. Rovanperä's model also gets blue stitching on the interior, themed after the Finland flag.

Perhaps the coolest-yet-smallest detail is in the mode selector for both cars. While they are seemingly "re-names" of the Yaris' "Normal" "Gravel" and "Track" modes of 60:40, 30:70 and 50:50 respectively, Ogier's 50:50 mode adopts the Morizo name as developed alongside Toyota's chairman Akio Toyoda. Kalle Rovanperä's version has even more fun, renaming "Track" to "Donut" referencing the driver's penchant for drifting.

Sadly, both the Sébastien Ogier and Kalle Rovanperä editions are reserved for the Japanese market only and purchasable via lottery system. The purchasers however will get special benefits, such as the opportunity to meet with the drivers and teams at the 2024 WRC Round 13 Forum8 Rally in Japan.
