Meet Travis, Irene, and Jayden – Morwell’s local Police Custody Officers (PCOs).⁣
⁣
With over 13 years' experience between them and backgrounds across trade and seasonal bush firefighters, they are now responsible for the transportation and welfare of those in police custody in Morwell.⁣
⁣
In their time at the Victoria Police Academy, the trio say the scenario-based training conducted throughout the program best prepared them for their role after graduating. ⁣
⁣
Like most recruits who pass through the Academy halls, meeting new people from all corners of the state and building strong relationships facilitated a supportive training culture, with all three noting they still keep in touch with their former squad mates.⁣
⁣
Irene originally applied to be a PCO to gain insight into what police officers experience in their day-to-day before applying to become a police officer herself. Seven years into the role, she has no plans to leave any time soon. ⁣
⁣
“The different people you’ll meet and situations you find yourself in is what I enjoy most,” says Irene.⁣
⁣
“I’ve had opportunities to supervise in my role, and the flexible working time really suits my lifestyle outside of the job.”⁣
⁣
