1️⃣ MULTIPLE LENSES
Just having a 24-70 just isn’t enough. Get a 70-200 or 70-180 lens, which will allow you to capture many more important vantage points from the stage. If you’re doing artist portraits, make sure to have a prime lens to get that buttery bokeh that’ll have you be invited back again and again!

2️⃣ ON-CAMERA MICROPHONE
Having an on-camera microphone for your mirrorless/video camera is a must-have. No one wants to hear blown-out bass overriding the artist’s singing. Make your raw clips stand out and capture that crisp concert audio.

3️⃣ YOUR IPHONE
Yes, your iPhone. Raw iPhone clips will often perform 10x better than recorded raw clips, and having that perfect iPhone video will give you content for days. 

4️⃣ YOUR LAPTOP/TABLET
Live editing is a no-brainer for any on-site media team. Why not do the same if you’re covering for yourself or a publication? Being the first to the punch for photos and videos is a great way to stand out from the rest, and it makes it MUCH more likely that the artist will see your pictures….

5️⃣ A GOOD ATTITUDE
Corny? Sure. Necessary? Absolutely. It’s not gear per se, but prepping yourself for a long, tiring day will make you leagues better than those around you. Get good sleep, drink water, eat meals throughout the day. You’ll thank us later.
