Friday night’s ping pong competition in Portland was no tipsy bout between friends — it was intense.

It was the beginning of the first Major League Table Tennis tournament at the Portland Expo Center.

“A lot of people think ping pong isn’t a sport,” said Portland Paddler player Jiwei Xia. “Tonight you can see it’s not a bar game or party game. You have to take it seriously.”
