Meet Anush Showghi👋, an NYRR member who is running his first marathon this year through the 9+1 program for guaranteed entry to the #TCSNYCMarathon. He said running has changed the way he operates and has given him more focus in everything he does. Having run cross country in high school, he stopped running in college but recently set his sights on the marathon distance.
 
“A number of years ago my son decided to run a half marathon and he did. That accomplishment stuck with me. Being on a family vacation last November, talking and reflecting about our year, and planning the years ahead (I turn 60 this year), I decided to commit to run a marathon in the city I love.”
 
Anush lives in Massachusetts and he said that doing the 9+1 took a great deal of planning and timing.
 
“My first race was the Virtual NYRR Global Running Day 5K. I planned the races from a 5K to my final race, which was the NYRR #StatenIslandHalf. It left me euphoric and speechless. Every race was amazing. I had the opportunity to run in the heat, cold, wind, and rain. Wonderful!”
 
In the next few months, he plans on running the Virtual #BlackHistoryMonth5K and the #RBCBrooklynHalf. He will then start training for the 2024 #TCSNYCMarathon and says he is continually inspired to run.
