Link in Bio. 🍄 🐟  Ever wonder how fish act on magic mushrooms? You're in luck. Some of our nation’s premier psychedelic researchers have been experimenting with subjects other than lab rats: zebrafish. A new study, recently published in the peer-reviewed nature_the_journal, used machine tracking to analyze how the compound affects swimming patterns 

#Zebrafish are a small, striped fish that belong to the minnow fam. According to a 2013 genome study, we share about 70% of our genes with these creatures. They’re also considered to be very social as far as fish go, making them good subjects for study on psychedelics in particular and how they might affect human behavior.

 “Here, we developed a wide-field behavioral tracking system for larval zebrafish and investigated the effects of psil*cybin, a psychedelic serotonin receptor agonist,” the study said. “Machine learning analyses of precise body kinematics identified latent behavioral states reflecting spontaneous exploration, visually-driven rapid swimming, and irregular swim patterns following stress exposure.” (They explore more!)

The study found two distinct patterns in how psil*cybin affected their aquatic test subjects. Furthermore, researchers were able to compare the effects to how zebrafish (and humans) react to ket@mine and anti-depressants.
