👩‍👦 What is your SPARK? As in, what makes you happy, motivated, or excited? What makes you, you?

A: My family, words, and trees make me happy.

- My family: I’m an older mom, and I appreciate and relish every minute with my little boy and my bonus kids. Nothing in life will ever compare to being a mom — it is a humbling, challenging, and completely rewarding experience, and I’m grateful to be in the throes of it right now (even if it means compromised sleep!).

- Words: Ever since I can remember, I’ve been obsessed with words: books, commercial jingles, songs — you name it. I love writing (short fiction is probably my preferred medium) and consuming words in all forms: novels, TV shows, movies, podcasts, etc. When I don’t write and read regularly, it impacts my mental health. Words are essential for me.

- Trees: I am a Mainer, through and through. Give me a book, a black lab, and a nice spot to squat under an old birch tree, and I’m happy.

🎉 What is your New Year’s resolution? 

A: I tend to be an extremist when it comes to traveling and being a tourist, but I want to recalibrate and find joy in being a tourist in my own city. I’m looking forward to taking my son to all the museums in D.C. that we haven’t yet visited, taking mini-breaks to West Virginia and border states that I haven’t explored, and finding ways to be adventurous closer to home.
