It is Black History Month! Throughout the month of February we are going to focus on African-American players that have played for teams in Kinston through the years. While we can't highlight everyone, we have chosen several to focus on!

The first being Terry Whitfield from Blythe, CA! Whitfield was a 1st round, 19th pick of the NY Yankees (1971). He played for the Kinston Eagles in 1973 hitting 18 HRs & 81 RBIs. He was named Carolina League MVP (1973). His major league debut came in September 1974 for the Yankees! Whitfield also played for the San Francisco Giants, LA Dodgers & the Seibu Giants of Japan. During his MLB career he hit for .281 w/ 33 HRs, & 179 RBIs. While in Japan he was twice named in the Best Nine Awards, given annually to the best player at his position. ⚾🦅⚾
