She also proudly wears the title of LGBTIQA+ Liaison Officer (LLO) - one of nearly 500 at Victoria Police. A PSO for seven years, we met Mel at the steps of Parliament House (where you’ll often find her) ahead of this weekend's Midsumma Pride March in St Kilda. 🌈: What do you love about your job MK: I love the variety, not every day is the same. Even though I am at the same location, there is always something different going on. I like talking to the community, hearing their stories, and providing any assistance if required. Also having the opportunity to be part of the LLOs and attend events to promote Victoria Police as an inclusive and safe organisation. 🌈: Tell us about the role of an LLO. MK: The role of a LLO is to help the LGBTIQA+ community feel at ease and safe to approach a Victoria Police member to report a crime, get advice or just have a general chat without feeling judged or misunderstood. 🌈: Why do you think it’s important to have representation in the organisation? MK: Representation within the organisation is important for inclusivity and creating a supportive environment. It helps build understanding and promotes a sense of belonging for everyone. 🌈: Your favourite thing about Midsumma? MK: The colour!! It’s fun and amazing to see the LGBTIQA+ community come together and support each other along with our allies. Everyone feels safe to be themselves and have a great time. I also get to spend time with my wife who works for Metro Train and attends the events as well. 🌈: And your favourite rainbow anthem? MK: Easy. Lady Gaga - Born this Way. Midsumma Pride March sweeps over St Kilda this Sunday from 11am. Our members will be proudly walking alongside the community in solidarity, celebrating our diverse groups, personalities and sexuality.
