Meet our President, Kyla Watkins!

Kyla is a 3rd year Political Science major from the Bay Area! As President, she oversees our chapter and amazing Executive Council. She also leads our Belonging, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (BEDI) chairwoman, a position which she previously held. Among her many accomplishments, Kyla is also currently UCR’s Vice Chairperson of ASPB (previously serving as Director of Concerts), as well as being a Student Event coordinator for The Barn on campus. 

“When I began my first year at UCR, my primary goal, like many others, was to find a community that could provide me with some sort of direction, or at the least, guide me into the right direction. I felt lost for awhile, and ended up not going through with fall recruitment, feeling doubtful of what was to come. I spent a majority of my first year in and out of different clubs and student organizations, slowly but significantly giving me the confidence and sense of control over my life that I sought so ferociously to find. Once Spring COB came around, I had the opportunity to attend a GPhi info meeting — within seconds of meeting these women, I knew this was the place for me — the place that would nurture the blossoming first year that craved being apart of something greater than themself. I knew that, though I did not know them yet, many of these women I would know forever. Gamma Phi Beta has offered me much more than everlasting friendship — it has given me the strength to pursue all that I aim to achieve, carrying the values of Love, Labor, Learning, and Loyalty proudly on my back. This chapter is a reflection of everything I love about people, and especially a strong group of women. Gamma Phi strives to uplift young girls everywhere, encouraging them and giving them the same guidance I wanted so badly when I didn’t know where to look. Thank you Gamma Phi for being so true and constant, and for building me up to be a strong girl, and thus a strong woman.”
