Built and opened in 1891, the Pikes Peak Cog Railway holds the title of the world's highest cog railway and the highest railroad in North America. It climbs an impressive 14,115 feet above sea level!

The inaugural passenger train in 1891 wasn't exactly smooth sailing. While a church choir successfully reached the summit, an earlier group of dignitaries had to turn back due to a rock slide at around 12,000 feet!
