Back in 2022, former UW Men’s soccer player, Noah Melick, announced he would be taking a step back from athletics. Noah endured numerous physical injuries that detrimentally impacted his mental health. Noah recognized that his engagement in the sport came at a price too high, his life. UNCUT acknowledges and praises the strength it took to make this decision. We wanted to amplify his message and aspects within his statement that told his story, while highlighting the importance of mental health awareness within athletics. His statement was a reflection of the fact that student athletes, while incredibly talented, are their own person outside of their sport. The conversation surrounding mental health and athletics is one UNCUT strives to promote and we are proud to re-share Noah’s story as part of that initiative. Thank you, Noah.
