Skate where it’s safe, this winter ⛸️. 
 
While storm ponds may look inviting to skate on, recreational activity is not allowed. Ice thickness can change rapidly creating dangerous conditions & can be unstable even if it looks solid.

Unlike a normal pond, water levels are constantly changing which creates unstable air gaps between the ice and water. Also, the water in these ponds contains sediment and contaminants, which can weaken the ice. 

Instead – enjoy one of Calgary’s many safe outdoor rinks.
