#StudentSpotlight: Briana Clary is a fourth-year Ph.D. candidate in the WVU Department of Neuroscience.

Briana pursued psychology as an undergraduate and took an interest in the structural and biological changes that occur within the brain. Her current research interests include stroke, sepsis, and Alzheimer's Disease. She is president of the WVU Neuroscience Graduate Student Organization (NGSO) and is very active in its Feed Your Brains and Train Your Brains programs.

"Stroke is one of those conditions where if you don't act within minutes, it can be detrimental. New therapeutics need to be developed, and playing a role in that was really interesting to me. I study how the presence or absence of tissue-nonspecific alkaline phosphatase (TNAP) within the brain can result in better or worse post-stroke deficits. We're examining blood-brain barrier permeability, cognitive impairment, and sensory-motor deficits."
