As the oil giants release their massive profits from last year, the fossil fuel industry races to extract more oil and gas that scientists say we simply cannot afford to burn if we want to avoid the worst impacts of climate change.⁣
⁣
The fossil fuel industry has been aware of the climate impacts of their dirty business for decades. They have deliberately hidden or ignored the truth, discredited the scientific evidence, and broken laws, so they could continue extracting more oil and gas and make enormous profits.⁣

Their business comes with a price.⁣
⁣
Extreme weather, climate and water-related events caused between 1970 and 2021, just over 2 million deaths and US$ 4.3 trillion in economic losses, according to the World Meteorological Organization (WMO)⁣
⁣
According to insurers Gallagher Re, the economic cost solely from weather and climate events in 2023 was an estimated USD 301 billion.⁣

Governments must protect our families and communities. They have to phase out fossil fuels to make way for a green, safe, and more just society. They must also make fossil fuel companies  pay for the damages they cause⁣
