PSYCHOLOGICAL SAFETY. What do those words mean to you? What do they mean to your colleagues? Your kids? Your partner? This was the topic of our “Limitless Live” livestream today with liveyesand and collinhenderson and we think we speak for everyone who attended when we say that it was absolutely profound.

According to Harvard professor Amy Edmondson, psychological safety is defined as “a belief that one will not be punished or humiliated for speaking up with ideas, questions, concerns, or mistakes, and that the team is safe for interpersonal risk-taking”. Basically, you feel safe being vulnerable.

So, what can you do to ensure you’re providing a psychologically safe environment everywhere in your life?

First, you can watch today’s livestream in the Club Limitless app or on our LinkedIn page (until Thursday 10/13 when it gets removed) to dive deeper into the subject.

Next, validate feelings. Validate pain. You can mirror vulnerability shown by others and allow yourself to be vulnerable. Model emotions and reactions, showing that its ok to feel and feel big. Instead of telling someone who’s upset that they shouldn’t be upset, instead, try saying “I’m here with you.”

Another very powerful phrase is “I see you”. If people feel seen, loved, and heard, they will feel safe.
