Another #MajorMonday with CHRIS O’BRIEN! Chris is fourth-year broadcast journalism student from Rockledge, Florida.
🐊Why did you choose your major?
I’ve wanted to be on TV my entire life. I still remember around age 5 when I was watching SportsCenter on ESPN and thinking, “That’s going to be me someday.” Now I’m focused more on news than sports, but the TV dream never changed.
🐊What do you plan to do with it in the future?
In the future, I plan on taking a reporting job at a local news station somewhere near the mountains (North Carolina, Tennessee, Colorado, etc.)! In the more distant future, I’d love to eventually land a job anchoring the news at a larger local market (say maybe Denver or Asheville).
🐊What do you enjoy most about working within your major at UF?
The UF College of Journalism and Communications is unlike any college I’ve ever seen anywhere. Our facilities and professors are incredible, and they give us so many opportunities to get real-world experience while also being a student. I love having the ability to use journalism as a medium to push necessary change in my community, and UF gives me the opportunity to do just that.
