This was a fun and relatively inexpensive full-day adventure, and best part — we didn’t plan a thing.

📍This is Ecuador 🇪🇨 

What we Did ⤵️

🔹Start in Baños— a super charming, super safe town, known as Ecuador’s Adventure Capital. 

▫️ In Downtown Baños you’ll find endless tour operators. Many rent open-air adventure vehicles, typically costing $20/hour. While 3-4 hours is sufficient to experience some of the nearby waterfalls, it’s ideal to negotiate a full-day rental so you can hike and get off the beaten path. 

We negotiated $100 for 8 hours, including gas. 

🔹Head out on the “Route of the Waterfalls”🤩. A SPECTACULAR road-trip featuring several massive falls. Pull over throughout and take in the views!

▫️ Don’t miss hiking down to ‘Cascade El Pailin’. Prepare for a short but steap hike to two large falls. 
Entrance is $2/pp. 

🔹If you have a full day rental, drive out to the entrance to the Amazon jungle! 
We looked up Google Maps and found some epic waterfalls within the jungle. 

▫️Last but NOT least: time your return trip to visit #pailondeldiablo at sunset. The locals decorate the falls with neon lights and it’s spectacular as the dips! 

Do you enjoy spontaneous adventures? 

TIPS: 
▪️Make sure your rental includes a full gas tank. We drove for 8 hours, and had some to spare 👍. 
▪️Don’t forget the rain cover! In Ecuador and across South America, showers erupt at any moment 🌧️. 
▪️Don’t attempt if you’re not comfortable driving a stick shift. We did not see automatics. 
▪️ALWAYS download an off-line map, like maps.me so that you know your location at all times.
