SJCPLS is saddened by the loss of our friend, Dr. Patricia "Pat" Laurencelle, the Library Advisory Board's (LAB) Emeritus member and library champion. Dr. Pat passed away at 100 years old, living a life full of intellectual purpose, passion, and compassion. She was a true library champion, advocating for SJCPLS since the 1980s.

Dr. Pat was appointed an Emeritus member of the LAB in 2009 by the Board of County Commissioners in recognition of her contributions, advocacy, and dedication to our libraries. In 2015, she received the @neflinofficial Library Champion Award for her steadfast support of SJCPLS.

Those who knew Dr. Pat often referred to her as the "historian" for SJCPLS and would attend every LAB meeting even when she was no longer on the board. She was known for her frank demeanor and sharp wit and was never shy about voicing her opinions. Her institutional knowledge, years of experience, enthusiasm for new service methods and technologies, wisdom, and passionate spirit will truly be missed.

Those who would like to pay tribute to Dr. Pat's life have two opportunities to do so. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 19, at the St. Anastasia Catholic Church on Anastasia Island. A catered reception will follow at 11:30 a.m. at St. Cyprian's Episcopal Church located at 37 Lovett St. in Lincolnville. In addition, the St. Cyprians Episcopal Church will dedicate Jazz Vespers to celebrate Dr. Pat's life at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 21. For more information, please visit https://bit.ly/3O5H9md.
