Everything you need to know about KITCHEN ISLANDS before you decide to put one in your project:, from the perspective of a general contractor! Our 3 tips below:

1️⃣ Islands require 2 outlets (per code) no further than about 6” from the countertop for plugging in your small appliances. We know that designers don’t love the look of them, but we are able to make the plate out of the same wood or painted material to match the cabinet, so don’t worry! Just the receptacle itself would need to remain the color purchased. The fabulous Lutron has a lot of color options to choose from!

2️⃣ For a high rise condo, if there is no existing plumbing for an island, it can be difficult to get water and drains over without channeling concrete. For single family homes, we can usually bring the lines through the floor/ceiling below, if there is one, to avoid tearing up the floor finish at the new kitchen.

3️⃣ For electrical and plumbing connections we need designers to plan for a knee wall (2x6 wall) so we can hide all the connections so you don’t see them in the cabinets.
