The JV football team lost to the LBJ Jaguars, 36-20, on Thursday night at the Noack Fields.

In the first quarter the Knights started off strong, with sophomore Miles Chilton scoring a touchdown to give the Knights an early 6-0 lead.

The Knights’ good start continued on the next Jaguar possession. After the LBJ center snapped the ball over the quarterback’s head, defensive ends Braxton Bishop and Finn Callaway sacked the quarterback in the end zone for a safety to make it, 8-0 Knights.

“I think after having that great offensive drive, we were all just really excited and had some great momentum going,” Bishop said.

In the second quarter, LBJ was able to score a touchdown that cut the Knights’ lead to 8-6 at the half.

The Jags put together two touchdown scoring drives early in the third quarter, to take the lead 20-8.

Keshon Jasper cut into the Jag lead with a third-quarter touchdown to make it 20-14 heading into the fourth.

In the fourth quarter, the Jags again put together a pair of scoring drives to take control of the game, 36-14.

But even though the outcome was decided, the Knights continued to fight.

“I think we did a great job of not just letting them win,” Bishop said. “We were all super tired, but everyone fought their hardest till the end.”

Bishop credited his teammate and fellow sophomore Jasper with exemplifying the team’s will to compete on his second touchdown run, which came late in the fourth quarter.

“We had no shot of winning, but Keshon had a great run where he broke a bunch of tackles and scored a touchdown,” Bishop said. “Even though he knew we wouldn't win, he gave it everything he had.”

The Knights will continue to play hard when they take the fight to the Northeast Raiders on Thursday. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Noack No. 1 after the conclusion of the freshman game.
