The visual arts program hosted its annual 5x7 Art Fundraiser in the MAC on Thursday. From acrylic to watercolor and ceramics to digital, potential customers could find just about any medium they could imagine, all created to be five by seven inches.

"I think it's a great opportunity that we have a space like this where students can show their work," art teacher Natalie Kleinecke-Pantuso said. "This is my first year attending the fundraiser, so I'm just kind of watching and learning."

As the art was sold, for $15 a piece, student helpers came around and replaced the empty spots with new art that was available for sale.

Some familiar faces made appearances at the show, including Lamar Middle School art teacher James Perkins and principal Nicole Griffith, who bought a handful of canvases and a set of ceramic trays.

The main goal of the showcase was to not only promote and display some of the artwork that McCallum students have created, but also to raise money. The proceeds brought in from selling art and a raffle will go towards supporting the visual arts program, providing student scholarships, iPads, and future master classes for the upcoming school year.

But for the artists and the students who attended, the event is more than just a fundraiser.

"I think my favorite part was all the kids there that came to support their friends," student Cadha Proctor said. “I think it was a great opportunity for the students showcasing their art to be able to sell it.”
