2022 YEAR IN REVIEW – DECEMBER

Happy New Year, Knights! In our trip down McCallum memory lane 2022, we scoured our platforms to create this week’s YEAR IN REVIEW Tuesday Top 10 photo essay. Here are some of the December events we rediscovered during our search. To check out our “2022: A Year In Review in Photos” and see which photo made the cut as our final December selection, please visit macshieldonline.com.

DEC. 3: The @mccallumrobotics teams competed in its second tournament of the season on Saturday, this time as hosts. The teams’ robots compete against each other to see which one can shoot the most disks into a basket levitating on the course. With 18 different teams in attendance, it was a competitive field. The robotics team is broken into sub-groups of four different teams. The G team was the top finishing Mac robotics team in eighth, and the M team finished just behind the G squad in ninth. DEC. 3: While a part of several group numbers, sophomores Lucy Gennrich, and Sadie Swinney got a unique opportunity to perform within the choir program’s cabaret. The duo was given the song “Some Things are Meant to Be” from Little Women and got costumed according to their roles. “I have never done something as small as a duet for a show before,” Swinney said. “It was kind of surreal to be able to perform it.” Caption by Chloe Lewcock.

DEC. 6: For the first time in 11 years, the McCallum boys basketball team beat the LBJ Jaguars. “We knew it would be a really tough game,” freshman Ethan Plummer said, “We saw this as a district championship game, so we knew we had to be really competitive and have energy from the start.” Caption by Leah Gordon.

DEC. 7: Wrestling Connally and LASA Wednesday night, sophomore Lucca Lewis and junior Kilian Oppel both won their matches by pin. Lewis's match could have gone either way, with close calls of her almost getting pinned. "I was just thinking, ‘Get behind her, I have to win this,’" Lewis said. "So getting the pin felt really good, since I almost got pinned a couple of times myself."
