FRESHMAN KNIGHTS 42, RAIDERS 15: The freshman boys basketball team pummeled the Northeast Raiders tonight in the Don Caldwell Gymnasium before a larger than usual crowd.

Going into their sixth district game, the Knights had high hopes.

"Our mindset going into this game was to have the game go in our favor fast and keep our defensive intensity high throughout the whole game," Josh Zuniga said.

The Knights met this objective and then some, keeping the Raiders at bay with a suffocating defense that produced frequent turnovers and made it difficult even for the Raiders to make it across the midcourt stripe to set up their offense. Applying defensive pressure throughout the first half, the Knights produced a 25-4 halftime lead.

The second half was more of the same: high defensive energy and excellent shot selection and execution on offense. Well, maybe the execution wasn’t flawless.

"We could probably work on our passes a little bit because there were a couple of times where we kind of just threw the ball away." Zuniga said.

Despite the occasional misfire, the Knights continued to extend their lead, ending the third quarter leading 37-6.

The Raiders earned a morale victory by winning the fourth quarter, but not by much. The Knights cruised to their fifth victory in six district games with a 42-15 victory that also marked the team’s fifth consecutive win overall.
