RHAPSODY IN BLUE: The Knights had a lot to play for on Tuesday when they traveled to LASA for a District 24-5A showdown with the Raptors.

For one thing, they had an annoying 49-45 overtime loss to the Raptors on Dec. 13 to avenge. That first meeting was technically a home game, but it was played at the Delco Center because DCG had taken on water and was deemed unsuitable for the game.

The Knights and Raptors also entered the rematch even in the district loss column, and a second loss to the Raptors would have pushed the Knights out of second place and into the UIL playoff bubble along with Northeast, LASA and Crockett, all trying to earn one of three playoff spots behind district-leading LBJ.

Given the stakes, the first three quarters built suspense rather than dissipating it. Entering the fourth quarter, the Knights led by only four points, and the Raptors had to be thinking they still had a good chance to pull off another upset and an unlikely series sweep.

But the Knights put the kibosh on that plan in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Dinos 24-9 to win the game by a comfortable 19-point margin.

For the game, the Raptors won the battle on the glass, out-rebounding the Knights 33-26, but the Knights countered that advantage by outshooting their hosts. The Knights made 57 percent of their shots to the Raptors’ 33 percent and 33 percent of their 3-pointers to the Raptors’ 16 percent.

The Knights are hosting the Eastside Panthers tonight hoping to run their district record to 8-3. We will have coverage of that game on this feed soon.
