WIN OR GO HOME TIME: Avenging a 49-42 home loss to Northeast on Jan. 13, the boys varsity basketball team returned the favor and then some, dealing the Raiders a 68-45 loss in their own gym on Tuesday. The win was even more significant than payback because the Knights (17-13, 11-3) claimed second place in the final District 24-5A standings while the Raiders (15-14, 9-5) had to settle for third place.

As a result of their finish, the Knights, the No. 2 seed in the district, will play Georgetown East View, the No. 3 seed in District 23-5A, on 7 p.m Monday night at Cedar Ridge High School.

The Patriots are 27-10 overall and 10-4 in district play, with one of those non-district wins coming on Dec. 3 in tournament play against McCallum. East View won that game, 68-41, but that was more than two months ago.

The Raiders, by virtue of being seeded No. 3, must play the second-place team from District 23-5A, the Hendrickson Hawks (26-9, 11-3), 7:30 p.m. Monday at Manor High School.

East View has been a tough bidistrict playoff foe for McCallum recently. The Patriots upset the girls varsity basketball team to open the 5A girls state basketball tournament last Tuesday, and they beat the varsity football team to open the 2020 5A-2 state playoffs.

But as Tuesday’s result at Northeast shows, these Knights are good at settling a score after a tough loss.
