KNIGHTS 20, JAGS 1: On Tuesday night, the varsity softball team played the LBJ Jaguars at Noack Field in its second game of district play. Batting first as the visiting team, the Knights scored a handful of runs in top of the first inning. With almost every swing came the sound of the neon ball greeting aluminum and cleats running on the basepath dirt.

Junior Sadie Roselle said that the team’s offense was the main reason they won so big.

“We were consistently hitting the ball and had three inside-the-park home runs,” Roselle said. “Our pitcher also did great, and everyone kept a good attitude and was supportive throughout the whole game.”

For Roselle, the key to victory is both physical strength and mental strength.

“It’s really important to cheer on teammates and stay loud,” Roselle said, “and we were definitely loud!”

The Jaguars struck out six times in three innings. The combination of Knight offense, defense and pitching proved too much for LBJ as the game ended due to the run rule with the Knights ahead, 20-1.

While the win was decisive, the Knights were not perfect in achieving it.

“We can always improve on our mechanics, but that is what practice is for,” Roselle said. “Luckily our team is very dedicated this year, and we put a lot of effort into practice every day, so I’m excited to see how it pays off this season.”

Up next for the Knights is a return to Noack on Tuesday as they take on the Northeast Raiders at 7 p.m. following a JV game at 5:30.
