Back at the Noack Fields on Tuesday, the Knights doubled up the Northeast Raiders 25-12 to improve their district record to 2-1.

After the Raiders scored five runs in the top of the first on a combination of walks and two timely hits, the Knights responded with six first-inning runs of their own.

The Knights’ ace Abby Castillo settled into the game in the top of second, retiring the Raiders without allowing a run.

In the home half of the second, the Knights padded their lead, thanks to an outfield drive by freshman Grace Yemington on the second pitch that enabled her to circle the bases and score.
The Knights scored two more runs thanks to hits from sophomores Amaris Gonzales and Jordyn Berger.

With the bases loaded and “Swimming Pools (Drank)” by Kendrick Lamar blaring through the stadium speakers, senior Kayden Williams stepped up to the plate.

The Northeast pitcher swung her arm in a circle and let the ball fly. Bam. The sound of aluminum greeting leather was followed by the ball soaring through the air and bouncing off the padding of the outfield wall.

While the Northeast outfielders scrambled to retrieve the ball, the Knights circled the bases. First, senior Gia Ruedas scored, then Gonzalez, followed by Berger. Williams even touched them all for an inside-the-park grand slam.

McCallum scored nine runs in the inning after holding the Raiders scoreless. Thus, the Knights led by 10, just five runs away from ending the game.

The Knights again blanked the Raiders in the top of the third, but the Knights only scored once in the bottom of the third.

"I think we could do better about not getting in our heads," freshman Elliana Rocap said.

In the top of the fourth, the resilient Raiders scored seven runs, to make the score 16-12, but the Knights scored eight runs to get within one run of invoking the run rule. Before the Raiders could get the third out, the Knights tallied the ninth run, which the umpires confirmed after deliberating on the play that ultimately ended the game.

On Friday, McCallum returns to Noack yet again to take on the LASA Raptors in what in what promises to be an exciting game. The varsity plays at 7 p.m
