JV KNIGHTS 5, COUGARS 0: The JV girls soccer team powered past the Crockett Cougars in its second-to-last district game Wednesday night at Burger Stadium.

The majority of the first half dragged on scoreless, but with just 6 minutes left in the first half, sophomore Jane Ahlquist scored the game’s first goal. The half ended without any more scoring, thanks in part to fierce defense from both teams.

Less than two minutes into the second half, however, freshman Priya Thoppil double the Knights’ advantage.

"I had beat all of the defenders, and the ball went to the back post exactly as I wanted it to, which is a really good feeling," Thoppil said.

Eight minutes later, freshman Ava Dallesandro scored to make it 3-0, and 10 minutes after that, freshman Maya Tackett got a shot past the Cougar's goalie, and the Knights were winning 4-0.

With less than 10 minutes left in the game, Thoppil scored again to make it 5-0.

"My second goal was set up perfectly, and I happened to have a great shot away from the goalie's hands," Thoppil said.

On Saturday morning the JV team takes on Ann Richards for its final game of the season.

"We'll be playing them for the second time, and because we beat them last time I think we have a pretty good chance of winning,” Thoppil said. “We tend to get messy and rush when we play teams that don't meet our level, so I think we need to work on picking our heads up and playing clean passes to each other."

The JV plays at 9 a.m. at House Park, followed by the varsity at 10:30.
