SUMMERS TIME: Surrounded by his family, his friends and his coaches, both new and old, senior Colby Summers signed a letter of intent on [date] to play Division III baseball at Concordia University in Austin. For Summers, the act of putting pen to paper is both a step forward but also a reminder of all the steps taken in order to get to this moment.

The signing also afforded Colby's dad Christopher a chance to reflect on how far his son has progressed since his early days of T-ball and playing catch in the park.

"It's not always smooth running off the field, but what y'all show on the field and what you guys have given to Colby in [terms of] camaraderie, team and friendship, that's a big deal," Christopher Summers said in his address to the varsity team.

As his time at McCallum comes to a close, Colby Summers reflected on his time not just as a Knight, but also as a member of his little league team and private club team.

"I'm so grateful that I was lucky enough to be surrounded by great coaches, family, and friends that helped me get to the point I'm at today," Summers said.

Having heard stories about his dad's time as a Tornado as a kid, Summers was already very familiar with what playing at Concordia would look like.

"The chemistry with the players on the team is great, the facilities are very exceptional, and most of all, it's just the best fit for me," Summers said.

Even though he's already looking ahead to his collegiate future as a baseball player, his time as a Knight isn't quite over. Having gone undefeated in district play, the Knights being their bi-district playoff series 7 p.m. tonight at Northwest Park.

A long playoff run is arguably the best way to end your senior season and your high school career.
