KNIGHTS CRUISE TO VICTORY: The girls varsity soccer team routed the Manor Mustangs 8-0 in a preseason scrimmage on Tuesday Dec. 12 at Manor.

Junior Ashley Mankinen said that while she was pleased with the road team’s performance and energy, the Knights also discovered areas where they could improve.

“I think that the team played pretty well,” Mankinen said. “Overall, I thought we did a good job of matching the aggressiveness of Manor, but there were times when I think we could’ve moved the ball around a little quicker.”

Maintaining high energy and focus is the goal, Mankinen said, no matter what the scoreboard says or what energy level the opposing team is putting out.

“I think our biggest thing is to not let our intensity or level of play drop even if theirs isn’t necessarily on the same level,” she said.

Mankinen was one of six Knights to score in the contest. Senior Kat Klein led the way with a hat trick, while seniors Madi Briggs, Ellie Knoll, Sarah Hauck and Caroline Owen all joined Mankinen in scoring one goal.

After shutting out the Bastrop Bears 1-0 in their final preseason scrimmage last Friday, the Knights will compete in the Blue Bell Classic in Brenham Jan. 4-6.
